To Matter or Not Matter, That's the Question Right…?
What are we meant for? Why are we on this floating rock? Does anything we do matter? I really don't know the answer to most of those — but I do know something about Purpose.
Purpose Robotics is soon entering an ever growing retail industry, with one goal in mind: we are simply trying to make retail stores stay open longer. There have been way too many times where I've needed something past closing hours and had no option but to wait until the day after. Sometimes it's a Diet Coke or some Haagen-Dazs ice cream, other times it's batteries for some late night project I'm hyperfocusing on.
I NEED SOMETHING OPEN.
And I'm not alone
Canada's grocery market is worth $112 billion dollars a year, and for nearly half of every single day, every single one of those stores is completely dark. No staff. No orders being fulfilled. No shelves being restocked. Just a massive, climate-controlled, fully stocked building sitting idle while the lease keeps running and the lights stay on for security.
We are not talking about a small inefficiency. We are talking about billions of dollars evaporating every single night across every city in this country — and the only reason it hasn't been solved yet is that nobody has figured out how to staff it without losing money.
Until now.
We do it with robots
At Purpose Robotics, we don't like to wait for others to eventually fix our problems — we like to invent, innovate, and fix it ourselves. We are building an autonomous robot that deploys in grocery and pharmacy stores overnight to restock shelves and fulfill orders, so retailers can run 24/7 without hiring night staff.
We are trying to help everyone win. First, the customer — who no longer has to deal with waiting until the morning to get the items they need, and doesn't have to deal with overpriced delivery after hours. On the other hand, store owners can maximize profits from stores that on average sit idle for 42% of every 24 hours.
Why now?
What better time than the present? But seriously — technology has now reached a point where the possibilities of what can be created are truly becoming endless. So we want to solve a problem that we know is a PROBLEM. The retail industry is one of many industries that is ever changing. We want to be part of that change and bring true value to both sides of one of the oldest activities in human history: the act of trade and exchange.
If that resonates with you — whether you're a store owner, a night owl, or just someone who's been locked out of a grocery store at midnight — we'd love to hear from you.
